Internet Access Initiative
BurstWave Foundation was established to fulfill an urgent need for internet access, exacerbated by the pandemic of 2020 – 2021.
A sudden surge of internet use by students receiving their lessons and submitting homework online, combined with parents working from home, has led to an internet crisis. Students without internet service at home are at a severe disadvantage and this has led to an increasing inequality of education for our rural students. There haven’t been any quick solutions.
Having to use a laptop while sitting in the car at a satellite Wi-Fi station isn’t the optimal learning environment, but it’s the solution being used in many school districts in Virginia. The summer temperatures are hot and the winter temperatures are cold; running the vehicle to maintain a comfortable temperature isn’t safe for long periods of time.
The demand for internet access is high and a lack of competition leaves people at the mercy of the service providers. Many residents simply cannot afford the monthly cost of internet service.
The BurstWave Foundation is working to solve this issue by providing internet service for families in Virginia who cannot afford it. Simply put, we use your donations to purchase internet service for those who need it.
It’s a win-win situation. Families or individualswho don’t have home internet service will have internet service for the student(s) in their home.
Low Cost Website Hosting
Low cost website hosting and design for non profits organizations and small businesses. This is done through FireSky Web Technology, a subsidiary of the BurstWave Foundation. All profits, after operating costs, go directly to helping families or individuals obtain internet access for remote learning purposes.
Micro Grants
As funds become available, BurstWave Foundation will acceptapplications for micro grants to eligible non profit organizations based in Virgina.
